Shrek 4 Threepeats at Weak Weekend Box Office
Shrek Forever After, the fourth film in the Shrek series, took the box office crown for a third weekend, bringing in another $25.3 million to bring its domestic box office total to $183 million so far.
The number two spot belonged to Universal's Get Him to the Greek, a spin off of Forgetting Sarah Marshall. The Jonah Hill/Russell Brand starring film took in $17.4 million in its first weekend.
Another newcomer took third spot, Lion's Gate's Ashton Kutcher/Katherine Heigl starring Killers. It took just over $16 million in its opening weekend.
Last weekend's third place picture, Disney's The Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, starring Jake Gyllenhall fell from second place to fourth, dropping 54% to $13.9 million. The domestic gross for the film thus far is a mediocre $59.4 million, but it has done significantly better overseas, drawing $156.4 million there so far.
Meanwhile, Sex and the City 2 went into freefall with terrible reviews and bad worth of mouth causing it to drop 59% for a fifth place finish in its second weekend. It's $12.6 million haul brings its total to $73.4 million so far. With another $90 million in overseas grosses, the film will undoubtedly be profitable, but likely won't touch the first film's $415 million worldwide gross.
The weekend's other wide openers, Marmaduke and Splice, were both disappointments. They brought in $11.3 and $7.4 million, respectively.
